OU-TEXTS – pilot begins

December 7th, 2007

I’ve been working on a project to see if OU students would like to receive text alerts from the OU.

It’s currently a pilot service aimed at students studying DSE212 — Exploring Psychology — on the October 2007 presentation.

The messages that you receive from ‘OPEN-TEXTS’ will be tailored to your study needs. So, for example, if you have finished a course and are considering what to do next, you will receive information on course choice.

The service is free of charge (unless you are outside the UK) and will be piloted for the duration of the course. If you would like to receive these text alerts, go to the StudentHome ‘personal details’ tab and enter your mobile phone number. You can unsubscribe from the service at any time.

You can find out more on the supporting website.

The first message went out this morning. Aside from the URL contained within it being wrong (www.open.ac.uk-sms!) the message was delivered successfully to all the students who have so far opted in to the service (about 450 in all).
